Maia are a four-piece from Huddersfield who apparently invented sci-fi folk.

This engaging new single from Somerset five-piece Rocketeer wins this week’s Least Likely Lyric Award.
Musically, she’s largely moved beyond the desperate intensity of her mid-late ’90s material to tones of hope and poignant reflection, often within the same song. (In a way, it’s a relief – that era’s stuff could stop hearts on the wrong/right day.)
But it was the sub headliner Metronomy that really made the night. The set drew pretty heavily from last years album ‘The English Riviera’ but with a few tracks from ‘Nights out’ thrown in for good measure.
The first song ‘Jas’ has a real pop feel to it with an up-beat mixture of acoustic guitar and piano. It is a brother-sister vocal duo of inspiration and thanks to people who have helped them along the way. The acoustic sound at the beginning ends with frantic drum beats that morph it into a full band effect when they hit the chorus. The lyrics are inspiring.
The boys back her up with a soft, tinkering melody that bops contently with Reiter’s innovative lyrics. An array of pitched do’s as a chorus add on. Catchy, catchy, catchy.
