After spending the majority of my day listening to a whole heap of new music (soon to be featured on Show & Tell), I thought why not spend the whole day listening to music? It’s a tough job but somebody has to do it. So I braved the cold and journeyed to the Green Note [...]
Have you heard of The Milk? No, then make like a DJ and add them to your iPod playlist as this band are something truly unique to shout about. After first releasing single ‘B-Roads’ which secured them a reputation as ones to watch in 2012, they’ve been selling out shows across London right, left and [...]
Y Niwl (The Fog in English) are a surf rock band more akin to the west coast of America than the damp mountains of North Wales. Tonight they have travelled down south to one of Cardiff’s coolest venues, Buffalo Bar, to give an excited audience a dose of Shadows-esque guitar and surfy sounds, North Walian style.
I did an assignment for uni not long ago on how the digitalisation of music has ultimately made it more than difficult for bands to be noticed in the 21st century. M83 has been around for the past 10 years, producing the odd hit but never really quite broke through those slippery cracks to industry success, ultimately leaving Gonzalez and his band unnoticed for far too long.
Through the ether of the dark room cuts the melancholic bluesy voice of Liam O’Donnell
In the shadow of Camden’s trendiest club, KoKo, lies the Purple Turtle. It is one of these non-assuming London venues (which I’ve discovered are always the best) with a small sign and a very insistent door man. It’s the first Thursday in Januaryand the Purple Turtle is packed. The crowd is filled with an unusual [...]
It was with bated breath that I arrived in Leeds’ University Union, for I didn’t know quite what to expect. Rugged, rolling liquid drum and bass, mulled wine and mince pies. The only choice for the discerning festive raver!
NEN podcasters Paul and Gary met with Pete and Tommy from The Wurzels, just before their fantastic and cider-drenched show at the O2 in Islington. What followed was an insightful interview about worm-charming, and a recording of Pete (the lead singer) reading ‘A Very Scary Story’, as written by Paul and Gary. You’ve covered Oasis [...]
There’s also the top secret first play of a new track but Fred has forbidden any blog posts to feature it, and we wouldn’t want to upset him. But FYI it sounds delightful and makes the room eager to hear what’s still yet to blast out of this ‘Spector cannon.’
Waiting on the balcony of Shepherd’s Bush Empire for the night’s show to kick off, the production team are busily carrying out the last checks to a simplistic stage set-up , no frills attached, that’s perfect for the return of Lisa Hannigan with tracks from her second album ‘Passenger’. A full band in tow, a [...]
…the power of his voice alone was his show-piece.
As a long time fan (I knew him before he was famous maaan!) I know Frank to be an excellent and charismatic performer, and tonight’s show in Birmingham (his biggest headline show so far apparently) did not disappoint. The energyand enthusiasm he has for live shows is clear from opener ‘Eulogy’ to finale ‘Photosynthesis’. His [...]
