It isn’t a place renowned for its musical prowess, but with recent movements in the Derby music scene, things are clearly afoot.
From The Ground is an encouraging debut from this quintet. The music isn’t forced, it doesn’t try to show off and it stays true to folk’s inherent mantra; if something’s worth doing, it’s worth taking your time.

I could easily scour this indecently charismatic firebrand's brilliant lyrics and find a few thousand phrases that would work as perfect life mottos or statements of intent, but if there's one line that sums up my feelings about music festivals, particularly as the season draws to a close, this is it.

Watching one of their first ever live gigs back at Offset festival 2010, as I watched Duncan work mysterious magic with his fingers dancing over the keys, and Emma’s voice crystal clear and pin sharp, my heart jumped realising these two, whilst very fresh and new to the music world, were destined for very big things. There will be live music throughout the day from talented local acts and alongside there will be a raffle and auctions with prizes kindly donated by local businesses and artists. There will even be some games and activities for the kids to get involved as well, this is an all ages family event.

For the most part these where messages of sadness and thoughts for her family but, as with any high profile person’s death, there where the usual tirade of ill-taste humour. Moreover, a singer whose best known track is about refuting the need for rehab then dies from a drugs/drink overdose. This makes a play on words painfully easy. But the fact of the matter is a young woman, the same age as myself save a few months has died.
