Never Enough Notes is the brainchild of Kimberley-Marie Sklinar. Kim’s favourite bands are We Have Band, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Wild Beasts, Death Cab For Cutie, Interpol, Phoenix, The Police and Radiohead…and that’s a shortlist. She’s an alright writer and a terrible guitarist…and an even worse snowboarder. Kim is from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, but has settled in London over the past few years. Having written for numerous publications and websites including The Smoke, allgigs.co.uk, The 405 and The Beat Surrender, Never Enough Notes was created almost as a dare in 2009 yet grows every day. Kim’s best gig – Radiohead @ Blackpool’s Winter Gardens. Worst gig – Peter Green’s set at The Secret Garden Party festival (the festival itself blew her mind!). Kim is not very good at writing about herself in the third person. She greets animals in the street. Kim deals with the overall running of Never Enough Notes.
Brasstronaut have been on my WOW radar since SXSW 2010 where I snuck into a Canadian Blast party…
Trophy Wife have released the video for track ‘Wolf’ produced by Yannis Philippakis (Foals)/
Local & Live is undoubtedly an incredible feat on the part of Paul Dunton and his team, but what makes his achievement all the more impressive, is that there are no big name headliners, or national bands. The line up is completely devised from local talent from in and around Kent, which through the growth of his acoustic nights and the increasing reputation of Local & Live, get the opportunity to play in front of crowds incomparable in size to anything they might have previously thought available to them, and every summer.
The new single from Foo Fighters comes on 5th September and will be called ARLANDRIA.
Swedish electro outfit Simian Ghost are set to release a seven song mini-album ‘Lovelorn’ on Heist or Hit Records on November 14th, with ‘Free Agent’ set to be their debut UK single. We have the track’s first peek right here for you first.
“We just wanted to be over the top,” singer Lovefoxxx says. “We would be very exuberant [in the studio] and not think of how to do it live. This was the only rule that we had.”
The most annoying thing about awesome guitar solos is not being able to name them. About midnight on Sunday night I was mixing up two songs (another annoying thing) – Cats In The Cradle by Ugly Kid Joe…and finishing it off with said solo. Boyfriend pointed out that this was two songs, not one…and then [...]
Latitude is one of the nation’s favourite weekends in the UK festival calendar and it’s no wonder why. With it’s perfect ratio of music:countryside:culture, we got out of our smoggy capital for a weekend so see what was in store at the festival’s 6th year.
Grave Babies “consider the human condition and then shove it down your throat”. For just over two years, Seattle’s Grave Babies have been sending out pop songs in the likes of The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Smiths, and The Cure, but with a great big effing whack of goth horror spat on top.
The Futureheads’ Hyde & Beast are back, but not as we know it…
It was like an intimate Take That concert but with the band actually playing their own instruments.
Now, I’ve read many a review about Latitude being a first-timer to this particular weekender and it seems to be the kind of festival that you’d take home to your parents for tea and cake. I’m not the kind of girl to take up any kind of glamping offer, so watch this space to see how it works out for us.
Lovebox has always been a 2-day festival but this year it’s so big, they’ve had to add another day of awesome music to the bill.
Cannibal Courtship, Dengue Fever’s debut album was released just last week adn we have some goodies we just have to share with you! Dengue Fever are an LA garage rock backing with Cambodian fronting via Chom Nimol. Think energetic and endlessly creative with a glittering of Afro groove for good measure. Now that’s unique.
