I recommend you press play on this video whilst you give my review a read. Whack your bass right up and you’ll understand why I’m so lucky to see Submotion Orchestra.
I hadn’t actually heard of them before the night of the gig. I was catching up with my friend Alex whom I hadn’t spoken to in over a year and it just so happened he was going to see them that very night so I cheekily invited myself and a sleeping bag to stay at his Uni pad in Nottingham.
It’s an intimate experience to see Submotion Orchestra live, especially in such a small venue, ‘Stealth’. I’d guess there were around 200 people in total which gave an almost ‘living room gig’ auora. Ever since ‘Enter Shikari – Sorry You’re Not A Winner’ music video I’ve wanted to be in a house party with an epic band and I must say this wasn’t far off my dream.
They display real craftsmanship when performing with each instrument, note and sound-wave in sync with not just one another but the entire room of swaying bodies. The band is a collective of artists that have already established themselves, most of them have been on tour and it’s evident they know exactly what they’re doing, playing cool, calm and collectedly with a sweet dose of experimentation and improvisation.
Originally I was uncertain of what I was attending, but when I told my friend Christy I was going to see Submotion Orchestra she was insanely jealous, and rightly so… I was in for a treat! She also hoped that they’d play Finest Hour. They did and it was freakin’ awesome!
