Elephant Stone // Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin // Out Now // Elephant Parade

This band is not influenced by ‘That Manc Band That Has Now Re-formed Just Like Every Other Has-Been Which Has Members Going Through Some Kind Of Horrific Rocky-Style Midlife Crisis, Thereby Ditching Any Credibility Still Clinging To Their Name By The Desperate Threads Of A Senile Collective Memory’

OK. I lied. They are. But they do reach further back in their influences, with some serious Beatles influence (post ‘tea’ discovery) present in their psychedelic optimism. Some of their songs even have a sitar, which is is cool in an ‘I like wearing baggy tie-dye trousers and letting my kids run around with ridiculous hairstyles because I’m “just so out there”’kinda way.

Love the Sinner, Hate The Sin is fortunately not some American, Midwest Christian anti-civil rights rant; but is a charming, summery song that is pleasing to listen to. Unfortunately it sticks a bit rigidly to the ‘jangly pop’ formula, and considering frontman Rishi Dhir is a talented multi-instrumentalist who has worked with acts as varied as Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Earlies, you would think that they would be able to come up with something a little more interesting.

Having said that, this single does what it says on the tin, I just think that they could probably deliver a little bit more.
