Broken Vinyl Club // Debut Album // 24.10.11

Submitted by on November 8, 2011 – 9:11 pmNo Comment

Last year I walked into a bar in Cardiff and heard Broken Vinyl Club play for the very first time. I wrote about them here describing their passion for sixties music and the wonders of their 4 piece harmonies.

It has been a busy year for the boys from Aberdare, Wales who after releasing their first single “I Want You Girl” at the end of 2010 picked up a couple of famous fans in Liam Gallagher and Alan Mcgee. The former Oasis and now Pretty Green frontman was tipped off about them by actor friend Jonathan Owen who then asked them to play a set at a launch gig for his Pretty Green club in London.

After this the band signed a new deal with Acid Jazz Records and released their next single “One Way Street”.

On the 24th October 2011 Broken Vinyl Club released their self-titled debut album. It is awesome.

The 12 songs each contain perfect harmonies, memorable guitar riffs and adoring lyrics. The tunes, which stand out for me, include “She Just Keeps Me Waiting” there’s a Farfisa organ in there! “Horror Show” as I just love a good harmonica and “Spin Around”as I love watching this being played live it’s a real crowd pleaser!

The range of their tastes is reflected in their penchant for slightly saccharine ballads with ‘Hiding From the Truth’ and ‘She’s Tired’. The final song on the album ‘Brave Captain’ starts Accappella, which plays tribute to their harmonies from the last 11 songs. There is something for everyone on this album and it really is a joy to listen to. Any lover of 60s music should have this!

The band have also recently revealed that Stereophonics lead singer Kelly Jones has asked them to be the support act for one of the their sold-out trio of Christmas shows at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Guitarist Justin Beynon told WalesOnline ”We were all like giggly, excited kids when I broke the news to the boys at practice.’

‘It’ll be the biggest thing we’ve done to date and a hell of a way to finish off a good year and getting a leg up from Kelly is a fantastic bonus.’

Their self-titled debut album is OUT NOW and can be physically purchased from Amazon, Ebay, HMV and Play.com or downloaded on these sites plus Itunes. All for just £7.99….bargain!

Their next show is on Friday 19th November at Cardiff’s The Promised Land.
