Breton // The Commisson // February 2012 // FatCat Records

Earlier on this year Breton toured with Tom Vek, a well-suited support slot. Not long after the tour they headed over to Iceland to record their debut album at the Sundlaugin Studio, owned by Sigur Ros. I am expecting an awesome debut album if teaser “The Commission” is anything to go by.

“The Commission” is a wonderful aural and visual treat. With elements of trip-hop, dubstep and electronica it is hard to pigeon-hole, but Breton are the kind of act that don’t need pigeon-holing – the music speaks for itself. Reminiscent of James Blake, Four Tet and Burial, the sound of “The Commissson” is very ‘now’ but also manges to sound futuristic and retro all at once. The track progresses well and captivates the listener from the start with subtle changes throughout, leaving you feeling like you have been taken on a journey. The video in itself is a piece of art, a short film created by Stuart Sinclair and bretonLABS.

“The Commission” is exciting, and just what the music lovers need right now. It’s set for release in February 2012 on FatCat Records.
