Swing Republic // Electro Swing Republic // 05/09/11 // Freshly Squeezed Music

I’m always delighted to receive some tasty new swing music, so my tastebuds almost tingled their way clean off my tongue when the debut album from Danish producer Swing Republic landed in my inbox. Having relentlessly, some might say obsessively, scoured the Internet and everywhere else for electro swing, and having exhausted most of the best tunes to the point of needing a long break from them, receiving anything new – particularly something as high quality as “Electro Swing Republic” – is a real treat.

Funky, fun and deliciously tapping-of-the-toe, these eleven tracks (twelve if you include brilliantly crunchy CD-only extra “Drum Boogie”) incorporate elements of house, glitch hop and drum and bass, layering old-school jazz and blues samples and gorgeous, newly-recorded orchestral arrangements over crisp beats, swishes and wobbles, and are a gift for DJs and home listeners alike. Striking a perfect balance between the up-to-date smoothness of contemporary electronic production and the happy-go-lucky sensibilities of its swingin’ antecedents, “Electro Swing Republic” is another essential purchase for established fans and should entice a few newbies in as well. Fantastic stuff.
