A Band Called Quinn // New Single // Here’s To Us // 18.10.10
After being talent-spotted in a club night featuring jazz-playing badgers, psychics and burlesque puppeteers, Glaswegian electro pop five piece A Band Called Quinn (fronted by singer/songwriter Louise Quinn) toured Britain last year with award winning theatre company Vanishing Point in a futuristic update of John Gay’s 18th Century classic The Beggar’s Opera.
The show was a spectacle, pitched somewhere between a gig and a play. It courted much controversy in the theatre world, dividing the critics and reviews ranged from 1-5 stars. Their next album is a record of the songs written specially for the show.
Britain’s best selling crime writer and Rebus creator Ian Rankin has written sleevenotes for the album; other famous fans include Madonna & Parisian superstar DJ Kid Loco who has collaborated with the band in the past as has Alex Kapranos; indie legends The Pastels & Echo & The Bunnymen guitarist Gordy Goudie.
Their music has been used in films by award-winning directors David McKenzie and Penny Woolcock and they have three tracks featured on forthcoming BBC3 series Lip Service out this Autumn.
