NEN Radar // Sarah Jaffe

Submitted by on July 29, 2010 – 10:30 amNo Comment

A Soulful Texan songwriter with intrinsic talent for hooks. Although she’s still in her early 20s, Sarah Jaffe is well on her way to becoming the next big thing out of Texas.

.

Her 2008 EP, the intensely intimate Even Born Again, was the toast of Denton’s thriving independent music scene. She is the most nominated artist in the 2010 Dallas Observer Music Awards. Jaffe’s debut full length, Suburban Nature, was released in May this year on Kirtland Records. Her song, Clementine, was recently featured ABC’s Private Practice and as NPR’s Song of the Day; she has garnered glowing mentions in Rolling Stone, Paste, Magent and American Songwriter. Jaffe has also held down a series of high-profile opening slots for acts like Lykke Li, seminal lo-fi folkie Lou Barlow and her fellow Texans Midlake and Norah Jones.

Her management sell her as a ‘truth singer’ rather than just any angry, political girl with an acoustic guitar. Big labels like that are fine if you can deliver, and Jaffe certainly does. Both the previous EP and Suburban Nature do nothing but ring true, with Sarah’s lyrical maturity becoming strikingly poignant over the simple, beautiful music.

She’s currently touring in the U.S, but keep up-to-date with NEN and you definitely won’t miss her UK tour.
