JH falls in love with Woodpecker Wooliams…

Who: Woodpecker Wooliams
What: Solo project of Brighton based multi instrumentalist Gemma Williams. Vocals, harp, kora, clarinet, whistles bells and percussion

Music-maker, bee-keeper and badger-watcher – now Brighton-based Woodpecker Wooliams began her musical adventures after a move to the Devonshire country side in October 2008 sparked her debut recording ‘Diving Down’. Heard by BBC radio, the album saw WW recording a local live session and later receiving airplay on Tom Robinson’s BBC6 new music show.
Since then, relationships with independent labels Beard Of Stars (Denmark) Woodland Recordings (Brighton/Berlin) and Autumn Ferment (Scotland) have seen releases over the last few years.
Currently playing shows around her hometown of Brighton WW heads out for a tour of Germany in July, Positivus festival in Latvia, Fano Folk festival in Denmark and back to play Small World in August.
She says: ‘From the tree tops watch it all’ (from her song ‘Put A Bird’)
