NEN Radar // Shellshag Video Interview @ SXSW 2010

Submitted by on April 9, 2010 – 1:12 pmNo Comment

Outside Waterloo Records and Amy’s Ice Cream in the western part of Austin, a green trailer with glass windows was parked. Inside was a hybrid TV-studio/living room set-up, microphones and people busying about on laptops. They were waiting for me, Jen Shagawat and Shell Driver (AKA Shellshag) to climb up on inside the trailer to have a jolly old time while we were towed around the streets of Austin at the height of SXSW 2010.

Shellshag are a punk/rock partnership who are not used to acoustic sessions of any kind, but they played along nicely. They’ve been compared to The Breeders, Sonic Youth, The Ramones, DFA, David Byrne, Guided By Voices, Moldy Peaches and early Superchunk. They’ve played with everyone from Iggy Pop, The Slits, The Cramps, Lightning Bolt and J. Mascis to Evan Dando, Les Savy Fav, Shonen Knife and their label mates Screaming Females, and their first (and now out of print) Gary Young EP was recorded by Pavement’s Gary Young in 2004.
