Mumford & Sons // The Cave video // 01.03.10 // Gentlemen of the Road/Island Records
Mumford & Sons have unveiled the video for their brand new single ‘The Cave’, to be released on the 1st March.
The third single (following ‘Little Lion Man’ and ‘Winter Winds’) to be taken from their debut album ‘Sigh No More’, ‘The Cave’s video was filmed on location in India when the band toured there with Laura Marling towards the end of 2009.
Mumford & Sons have begun this decade much as they ended the last, with word-of-mouth recommendations and a fearsome live reputation helping them to become one of the most significant (and unexpected) British success stories in recent years. After Sigh No More charted at Number 11 in the UK album chart in October 2009, the album has quietly kept on selling – rising to a new high of Number 7 in January.
Meanwhile, the folk-rockers have been taking their live shows across the globe. A unique tour of India at the close of December included sold-out performances in Pune, New Delhi and Hyderabad. While they were there, the band decamped to a studio in New Delhi to collaborate with a collective of Rajasthani musicians (the resulting recordings are due to appear sometime this year).
The band’s rapidly-expanding following is now set to grow further still, as they embark on their first tour of Australia. That will be followed by a series of much-anticipated American shows, before they return to the UK and Ireland for a triumphant spring tour, which has already sold out completely.
With The Cave’s pounding tale of hope and defiance already looking set for similar success, 2010 is clearly shaping up to be Mumford & Sons’ year.
