In a world awash with bands who sound like out-takes from a Depeche Mode recording session circa 1981 (yes I do mean you, La Roux), Audigold is like a bright beacon on the horizon. The North London band, comprising of Raphael, Jonny, Alexander and Joshua have had some success, reaching number 54 on the ReverbNation Alternative Charts with their Last Skies EP. Hymn 171 is a cross between The Sundays, Starsailor and Jeff Buckley; and the mighty Tea Lights has that same sonic landscape of A Northern Soul era The Verve.

Audigold are a refreshing change at a time where it seems to get on you have to jump on some sort of bandwagon that is convinced 80s music was all fab (it wasn’t – I was there!) and are happy to create their own sound. Unfortunately, this might go against them as their music could be considered a little old-fashioned – the whole Jeff Buckley sound is so 2001! However, the fad for music made on Casio VL-Tone keyboards will eventually fade and people will start to appreciate well-made songs with a meaning and depth again and then just maybe their time will come.

Audigold are currently the houseband at the iBar in Whetstone, Barnet and details of their upcoming gigs can be found on their MySpace page
