It seems like it’s been a long time coming now, but Mumford & Sons are finally about to unleash their second album ‘Babel’ upon the world. The band have undergone a dramatic and spectacular transformation from the darlings of London’s ‘Nu-Folk’ scene to international superstars who have broken into the American market in a way which most British bands dream of.

In a statement issued by Mumford & Sons, they are pretty satisfied with the outcome of the new album, which is produced by Markus Dravs; "We are more than excited to release 'Babel' into the world…As a band, we’ve never been closer or more collaborative, all working to our strengths. And so we feel that this record is a natural progression that we’re proud of, and we cannot wait to take it out on the road."

The name of the album itself is quite interesting with the biblical connotations it brings. It could be that ‘Babel’ will be able to transcend countries and languages with its universal songs; or, like the Tower of Babel itself, the band’s reputation has been built up so high that anything less from this album could bring the band crashing back down to earth.

The question which will be on everyone’s lips is can the Mumford’s deliver a strong second album which can up their game and win over critics and fans alike. There is always talk of ‘second album syndrome’ and we can only hope that the band can deliver on the goods. But, from the sounds of the previews and from the confidence of the band themselves, everything seems to be on the right track.

'Babel' will be released through Gentlemen of the Road/Island Records on the 24th September 2012. The album will be available to pre-order through the band's website on the 23rd July.
