LOVEBOX 2012: FLORIPA ARENA EXTRAVAGANZA // 15-17 JUNE 2012
The vibrant Brazilian fiesta, Floripa will host its very own arena at East London’s popular music festival Love Box at Victoria Park, Friday 15th - Sunday 17th June . Special treats and surprises will be in store for the festival goers throughout the weekend as Floripa presents more than twenty diverse musical acts and activities over three days and four nights both at the park and at its East London home.
The weekend kicks off on Thursday 14th June at Floripa with Club Popozuda who will present their unique blend of global booty shaking beats with Gato Preto flying in from Germany to perform live their debut UK show. João Brasil will round things off with live MPC wizardry in true baile funk style and bootleg mash-ups for some cheesy tropical fun.
The casa party moves the to Victoria Park for day one of Lovebox from 1pm with a dose of Global Bootyshaking beats, provided by some of Floripa’s resident DJs. Later day moves to night Floripa’s Brazilian haven as Batmacumba present spectacular batucada from Eri Okan, a twenty-piece percussive ensemble fusing original street culture from London with Afro block rhythms from Brazil plus DJ Cliffy playing sambas, batucadas, classic Rio breaks and some lost Brazilian gems.
B Boys and Batucada will be taking centre stage at Floripa’s Lovebox Arena throughout Saturday afternoon and a selection of Floripa’s tropical cocktails will also be available. To ensure everyone is in true festival spirit Floripa’s make-up artists will be on hand to treat the music lovers to a dose of Brazilian glamour. An exclusive after-party hosted by soul singer Kirsty Almeida and co-founder of Lovebox/DJ Ross Clarke will then take place at Floripa well in to the early hours, with other energetic performances by Bev Lee Harding and more.
The weekend will wrap up with Jess Indeedy’s Musical Bingo, which offers surprises and prizes as DJ Helix challenges your musical prowess. The spectacular bass-heavy nine-piece Hackney Colliery Band perform their foot-stomping covers of classics alongside original music in a diverse and dizzying blend of funk, hip hop, ska, jazz, Balkan and more. Texan singer-songwriter Shea Seger sings good old Rock n Roll and country music, followed by quirky, crazed disco punk band Folie Ordinaire who will bring their synth and rock lovin' brand of rebellion to the party.
The immensely powerful dub and reggae 8-piece band The Resonators will make you feel the summertime vibe whatever the weather, with their positive, uplifting and forward-thinking music that has gained great high profile support. Expect unannounced artists from The ORGASMATRON - a night of epic proportions created by Guy Chambers with everything from tap dancing and opera to acts like Example and Paloma Faith - they will bringing a special unannounced act alongside many others on the Sunday.
Meanwhile all day at Floripa there will be Brazilian Sunday Roasts on offer and from 5pm The Jazz Meet will perform with music from saxophonist, producer and composer Max Grunhard and his quartet, before rounding the weekend off nicely.
